October 12 is the anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Columbus in 1492. On the same day, protests broke out in the capital of Guatemala, protesting people's attempts to overthrow the statue of Columbus, and also "beheaded" a 19th-century presidential monument and splashed red paint to protest the colonial aggression of the local aborigines by European colonists.
